Getting Started/Policies

We strive to make the process of getting started in a new lesson program as simple as possible - let us know about your interests and goals and we will get to work finding the perfect teacher match right away! As a family business run by Los Gatos residents -- comprised of former students of the classic, now-defunct, Joplin Sweeney Music school (In whose location we are housed) -- we strive to be as flexible and easygoing regarding lesson makeup policies/scheduling issues as we would hope for others to be with us in trying to manage our own families' busy schedules - we know how hectic things can get! Student families can have direct contact with their teachers to schedule make-up lessons and discuss progress as needed without any bureaucratic difficulties. There are no registration fees and no long-term commitments or contracts to sign. Our top priority is assuring that every student is happily situated with the right teacher for them, making great progress and enjoying their lesson program. We strive to ensure all students, parents, and teachers alike are as satisfied with everything as they can be.

Lessons take place in our location in lovely downtown Los Gatos. Our newly renovated studios are modern, cheerful and uncluttered, with plenty of natural light and window views of the beautiful mountains above and quaint downtown below - an inspiring place to learn and play music!

We are set in a cozy alley nestled between North Santa Cruz Avenue and Village Lane (right behind Los Gatos Cafe), making it a convenient and cheerful place to visit. Parents are free to wait in our comfortable waiting room (with free wifi) or stroll the town while their children are in lessons. We are right in the midst of great shopping, cafes, salons, interior design shops, and restaurants galore.

We accommodate ANY and ALL scheduling needs - all hours of the day, seven days a week, and new students are welcome year-round!

Although lesson fees can vary among teachers, the typical private lesson fee runs between $40-$45/half hour (or $80-$90/hour; $60-$67.50/45 minutes). We will be happy to consult with you about which duration of lesson might best suit your student's particular needs. Half-hour sessions are most common for starting out, especially for younger beginners, with increases to the lesson duration often appropriate as the students progress. Lessons are conducted on a once-per-week basis, although alternatives can be arranged if specially requested (ie: every other week, twice a week).

We are also happy to set up short-term or single lessons - perhaps in preparation for an audition, entrance exam, special performance, or whatever your specific needs are!

You can read bios of our staff of expert instructors by clicking on the Instructors tab at the top of the page. Please submit an inquiry form to contact us for additional information or to inquire about the availability of any teacher you may like to specifically inquire about. We'll get back to you promptly with current openings and scheduling info.

Los Gatos School of Music hosts two major recitals annually, and all students at all levels are encouraged to perform! Recitals are a great way for students to show off their skills, push themselves further, and to learn to perform in front of others. In fact, recitals are a vital tool used to push students to the next level.
